Chamber ensembles to present concert

The Brass Quintet is directed by Dr. Timothy McGarvey, professor of music. The members of the quintet are Dan Mangold and Carolyn Dundas on trumpet, Rachel Schultz on horn, Josh Van Der Maaten on trombone and Zack Wolf on tuba. The quintet’s repertoire will include Alleluia by Wolfgang Mozart, Antonio Vivaldi’s Spring, Claude Debussy’s The Girl With the Flaxen Hair, Satin Doll by Duke Ellington and Luther Henderson’s Glory, Look Away.

Dan Duffield, percussion instructor at Northwestern, directs the Percussion Ensemble. The group consists of Ryan Postma, Samantha Schouweiler, Stephan Harsma, Monica Klarenbeek and Kevin Wallace. The ensemble will perform Song of Quetzalcoatl by Lou Harrison and Ney Rosauro’s Brazilian Myths.

The Strings Ensemble is directed by Dr. Kimberly Utke Svanoe, associate professor of music. Members include Carrie Manifold on first violin, Anna Christensen on second violin, Alexandra Spreigl on viola, Carolyn Muilenburg on viola and Morgan Weis on cello. The group’s repertoire will include Allegro, the third movement of Johann Bach’s “Double Violin Concerto in d minor,” and “‘Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus.” Members of Northwestern’s Symphonette will accompany the ensemble. Jenelle Kleinhesselink, Rebecca Bagley, Rachel Schultz, Amanda Patchen, Eunice Paik, Robert Latchaw and Svanoe comprise the group.
