Hubbard to perform solo show at Minnesota Fringe Festival

Northwestern College theatre professor Robert Hubbard will present his fourth full-length solo performance at the Minnesota Fringe Festival Aug. 2–12.

The show is based on Hubbard’s life, starting with his North Dakota childhood when he antagonized others on the playground with his irreverence. After his parents’ divorce, Hubbard found himself attending church against his will and resisting indoctrination with every teenaged rhetorical and behavioral weapon he had. Reminiscing through stories about “Scooby Doo,” “Saturday Night Live” and Sunday school, Hubbard reflects on whether faith can be forced.

An experienced actor, director and playwright, Hubbard has performed his solo shows around the country, including at theatre showcases in Minneapolis, Kansas City, Baltimore and New York City. Last summer Hubbard and his wife, April, who also teaches at Northwestern, performed “Macduo,” a two-person adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Macbeth,” at the Minnesota Fringe Festival.
