Air Force brass ensemble to perform at Northwestern

The United States Air Force Airlifter Brass will perform a concert in Northwestern’s Christ Chapel on Thursday, Feb. 18, at 11:05 a.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The six-person ensemble features two trumpets, French horn, trombone, tuba and percussion. Their repertoire includes a variety of musical styles, including military marches, jazz and patriotic songs.

“We are excited to have an outstanding professional brass ensemble come and play for our students and community,” said Dr. Tim McGarvey, professor of music at Northwestern. “Anytime we can get professionals here it is a great motivation and inspiration to all of us. Students benefit significantly from having such close interaction with our country’s military ensembles.”

The ensemble, based near St. Louis, is part of the United States Air Force Band of Mid-America and performs at civic centers, concerts halls, high schools and military events within the band’s 10-state area of responsibility. The musicians perform to inspire patriotism, connect communities with military service members and honor the country’s veterans.
