Dr. Tolsma’s research in cancer genetics and cell biology has been widely published, and she is dedicated to the integration of science and the Christian faith.

Her primary research project explores which chemicals in plants inhibit or slow the growth of cancer cells, with the goal of determining the process by which those chemicals interfere with the cells’ proliferation.

Student advocate

Dr. Tolsma was instrumental in Northwestern’s application and acceptance into SEA-PHAGES, a program that gets Northwestern students involved in elite-level research early in their college careers.
