James Mead

Dr. Mead thrives on Old Testament teachings and helping students understand, enjoy and learn from all parts of the Bible.

Published author
When Dr. Mead couldn’t find a current, comprehensive textbook for his Biblical Interpretation and Theology course, he wrote his own. The result, Biblical Theology: Issues, Methods, and Themes, introduces college and seminary students to the methods biblical scholars use to study the Bible.

Team builder
Dr. Mead is a two-time recipient of the Northwestern Teaching Excellence Award. Students say, “His empathy for others flows into how he holds his classes and the way he interacts with students. Each person in his class feels important and part of a team.”

Pastor’s heart
Before receiving his doctorate from Princeton Theological Seminary, Dr. Mead served as a Presbyterian pastor in Arkansas and Louisiana for 11 years, which exposed him to the different ways people learn the Bible.

Biblical embrace
Along with teaching Hebrew, Dr. Mead focuses on Old Testament teaching and enjoys introducing students to a part of the Bible that oftentimes gets overlooked. “The Old Testament is the necessary fount from which the New Testament flows,” he says.
