Inspired to be a healer

After competing as a high school athlete, Andrew has had several shoulder and knee surgeries. His personal experiences and passion for learning about the body helped him want to become a physical therapist and to choose exercise science as his college major. In addition to minoring in psychology, Andrew continues to pursue his interest in athletics by participating in intramurals and attending Northwestern sporting events. He’s also a Franken Fellow in the Compass Center for Career & Calling—helping peers prepare their professional portfolios—and a student ambassador for the admissions office.

Maxing out
I chose Northwestern College for the standout education, Christian experience and close-knit community it offers. Northwestern has strong academics and enables students to explore a variety of subjects and interests. My faith has progressed in ways I could have never imagined, and I have built many meaningful relationships with students and faculty.

Healthy preparation
The exercise science program is challenging and includes a great amount of hands-on experience that builds students’ knowledge not only in the classroom but also in the real world. The facilities are wonderful, especially our new science building and the exercise science lab.

Role models
The faculty are what make the program so successful. The professors want to see their students succeed, and they go above and beyond to make that happen. They are supportive and knowledgeable. They do a great job of integrating faith with academics. They want to know who you are—they ask you about your life and have genuine conversations. They always want to see you do your best, both in the classroom and in your daily life.

Value-added
I have built many friendships that will continue well after I graduate from Northwestern. I have gained a broader knowledge of who I am as a Christian and how my role impacts everything else. I gained a desire to improve not only myself but everyone around me.
