Challenging beliefs

A double major in political science and public relations, Aaron enjoys connecting with others through athletics, tutoring, residence life and campus activities. He shares the role of editor-in-chief for the Beacon student newspaper and is a member of Northwestern’s Honors Program. He says studying political science at a Christian college has helped him to both challenge—and affirm—his personal beliefs.

Capitol experience
During my senior year of high school, I had the opportunity to serve as a page during the state legislative session in Pierre, South Dakota. Although I had little interest in politics before this experience, I was highly engaged with the presented topics and realized I wanted to play a greater role in addressing governmental issues. This led me to pursue a political science major at Northwestern. 

Rooted in faith
The greatest strength of studying political science at Northwestern is the college’s Christian foundation. Every class I take pushes me to think deeply about my faith and political philosophy, which has helped solidify my beliefs.

Fast friendships
I started out as a shy freshman but quickly found NWC to be an inviting space where it’s easy to make friends. My favorite memories include late-night trips with friends—either to Perkins in Sioux City for pancakes or to La Juanita’s in Le Mars for burritos. These trips have been a great way to spend quality time together.

Invested faculty
Northwestern faculty members are extremely kind and invested in their students. From professors in my major to those teaching general education courses, each professor has sought to help me flourish at college and prepare for life after graduation.
