NWC to hold dance crew competition

Northwestern College will present its second annual Northwestern’s Best Dance Crew (NBDC), based off of the hit MTV reality show America’s Best Dance Crew, Friday, Oct. 1. Five or six campus dance teams will compete for the title at 9 p.m. in Christ Chapel. Admission is $2, and the public is invited to attend.

BreakEFX Crew, a Denver-based dance troupe that performed on last season’s edition of America’s Best Dance Crew, will participate in the Northwestern event. Members will open and close NBDC with performances and serve as judges. Established in 2006, BreakEFX Crew was Colorado’s Best Dance Crew champion in 2008 and won the Verve Collizions hip-hop competition in Boulder in 2008 and 2009.

The Northwestern dance teams will each perform a dance under five minutes. The judges will choose the top three crews, which will return to the stage to perform a second dance under one minute in length. After that second round, a live audience vote will determine the winner.

Members of BreakEFX Crew will offer break dancing and freestyle clinics that afternoon for members of the student dance crews and students chosen via a drawing.
