Chamber ensembles to present joint concert

Three Northwestern College chamber ensembles will present a joint recital on Friday, April 30, at 7:30 p.m. in Christ Chapel. The concert is free and open to the public.

The Brass Quintet, led by Dr. Timothy McGarvey, professor of music, will perform six numbers. The members of the quintet are Dan Mangold and Carolyn Dundas on trumpet, Rachel Schultz on horn, Courtney Davis on trombone and Emily Hill on tuba. The quintet’s repertoire will include Come Thou Fount, arranged by Bob Supplee; Johann Pachelbel’s Psalm Fantasia; Fanfare from "La Péri" by Paul Dukas; J.S. Bach’s Fugue II from The Well-Tempered Clavier; Nearer My God to Thee, arranged by Luther Henderson; and John Cheetham’s A Brass Menagerie.

Dr. Juyeon Kang, associate professor of music, is working with two groups: a trio and a string quintet. The trio, consisting of pianist Sarah Shively, violinist Anna Christensen and clarinetist Meghan Schuster, will present movements from a suite by French composer Darius Milhaud and a piece by Russian composer Aram Khachaturian.

The string ensemble includes Kai-Hao Chen on piano, Carrie Manifold on violin, Carolyn Muilenburg on viola, Linden Figgie on cello and Alexis Wiersma on double bass. The group will play movements from Franz Schubert’s Trout quintet in A major.
