Dancers in Company to perform April 29

Dancers in Company, the touring repertory dance company from the University of Iowa's dance department, will perform at Northwestern College's England Theatre at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 29.

The 12-person ensemble, comprised of undergraduates and graduate students, performs a variety of dance styles, from modern and jazz dance to contemporary and classical ballet. Eloy Barragán, director of the company, has danced with Joffrey II, the Washington Ballet, the New York Theatre Ballet, the Eugene Ballet Company, Ballet Idaho, and dance companies in Mexico City and Europe. His contemporary ballet choreography has been presented in Finland, Paris, New York City, Beijing, Panama and on other stages around the world.

The 2010 Dancers in Company repertoire features a variety of dances by six artist/ choreographers, including University of Iowa guest artist Carl Flink, who has danced for Daniel Nagrin, Bill T. Jones and Paul Taylor.

"Mirror, Mirror on the Wall," "Lost Lullabies," "Porteno" and "Lips and Hands" are titles of a few of the pieces.

Reserved seat tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students, or $8 and $6 the day of the performance. They are available from the Orange City Arts Council at Town Hall, the Dove Book Store and Northwestern's theatre department. An advanced master class for teens and adults will be held April 29 from 4 to 5 p.m., and a master class for children ages 8 through 12 will be held April 30 from 4 to 5 p.m., both at the England Theatre. Cost is $5, or $6 the day of the workshop. Contact the Orange City Arts Council.

Seating and workshop slots are limited. Orange City Arts Council member/ donors may reserve tickets and workshop slots on April 12. Tickets will be available for the general public on April 13.

Dancers in Company will also do school programs at the MOC-Floyd Valley Middle School in Alton on April 29, and Spalding Catholic Elementary in Alton and Orange City Christian School on April 30.

The performances and classes are sponsored by the Orange City Arts Council and Northwestern College, with funding assistance from the family and friends of Kay Doornink, in honor of Kay, one of the founders of the Orange City Arts Council. Support for Dancers in Company has also been provided by the Iowa Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.
