Northwestern professors present papers at Symposium on Faith and Culture at Baylor University

Northwestern professors Dr. Daniel Young and Dr. Mike Kugler presented papers at the third annual Baylor Symposium on Faith and Culture, held Oct. 8-10 at Baylor University in Waco, Texas.

Based on the theme "Secularization and Revival: The Fate of Religion in Modern Intellectual History," the symposium considered religion's place in modern thought and culture from the 18th to the 21st century.

Young, who teaches in Northwestern's political science department, presented a paper entitled "Natural Law and Political Liberalism." He holds a doctorate in political science from Temple University and joined Northwestern's faculty in 2002.

Kugler's paper was entitled "The Faun Beneath the Lampost: What Christian scholars often mean when they talk about the Enlightenment." A faculty member in Northwestern's history department, he earned his doctorate from the University of Chicago and was awarded the Northwestern Teaching Excellence Award in 2006.
