NWC admissions DVD takes first place in national contest

Northwestern College’s new admissions DVD has won a national competition. Real. Northwestern. won a gold award in the Admissions Marketing Report’s 24th annual advertising awards contest. The DVD was recognized in the video viewbook category for colleges with fewer than 2,000 students.

Northwestern was among 239 colleges that received a gold award after being selected by a national panel of admissions’ marketers, advertising creative directors, marketing and advertising professionals, and the magazine’s editorial board. Over 2,000 entries were submitted.

Admissions Marketing Report is a monthly magazine covering the marketing strategies and admissions procedures of colleges, universities and schools.

Real. Northwestern. was produced by Sioux Falls-based Passenger Productions, founded by Joe Hubers, a 2003 Northwestern alumnus. Hubers and his team worked with Tamara Fynaardt, associate director of public relations at Northwestern, to produce the award-winning project.

The DVD features students telling what they really think about their profs, writing papers, discipleship and dorm life, and includes “student-cam” video they shot. Participants included Jesse Bailey, Ortonville, Minn.; Michelle Becker, Woodward, Iowa; Jordan Langer, Lincoln, Neb.; Heather Nold, Cosby, Mo.; Anna Pitney, Wausau, Wis.; and CJ Wurpts, Sheldon, Iowa.

The DVD can be viewed on YouTube or Northwestern’s website: www.nwciowa.edu/realnorthwestern.

This marks the third year in a row for Northwestern’s marketing efforts to be honored by the magazine. Last year, Northwestern received awards for a series of postcards for parents of prospective students, a magazine ad, and a billboard ad. In 2007 an admissions publication was honored.
