Jongerius presents research

Dr. Kim Jongerius, professor of mathematics at Northwestern College, presented a paper recently at the biennial conference of the Association of Christians in the Mathematical Sciences. The conference was held on the campus of Messiah College in Grantham, Pa.

Jongerius’ paper, “Rules and Insights: Connecting the Mathematical and Linguistic Abilities of C.S. Lewis,” resulted from her sabbatical during the 2006–07 school year. The paper explores Lewis’ background in and attitude toward mathematics.

The 2005 recipient of the Northwestern Teaching Excellence Award, Jongerius has been a member of the faculty since 1993. A reviewer for calculus and intermediate algebra textbooks, she has been published in the Journal of Pure and Applied Algebra.

Jongerius earned doctoral and master’s degrees in mathematics from Colorado State University. She majored in math and English during her undergraduate studies at Northern Arizona University.
