A Night at the Opera
Northwestern's Heritage Singers will perform a fully staged satirical comedic opera. Admission is free, but tickets are required and can be obtained from Northwestern's music office at 712-707-7062.
This 60-minute comedy opens with the death of a wealthy landowner whose relatives all gather around in anticipation of their inheritance, only to be shocked to learn that all the inheritance has been willed to a local charity. The bulk of the opera tells of their scheming attempts to change the will to their own advantage. Themes of love, greed, hypocrisy, deception and justice intersect as the story unfolds, calling on the audience to embrace the idea that "the end justifies the means."
