Director of Northwestern NEXT Program

Northwestern College is looking for a visionary educator with a heart for students with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities to lead its NEXT Program. In partnership with the associate director, this person will ensure that students receive a personalized, inclusive college experience within a supportive Christian environment. The director will also provide hands-on support for NEXT Program students as they navigate their classes, course work, jobs/internships, and life on campus.

The position is full-time, 10 months (Aug-May), and includes time off when students are on break. A full benefits package is provided, including tuition assistance for the director and dependents.

Primary responsibilities include:

• Recruiting and selecting NEXT Program students
• Orienting students to life on campus and in the local community
• Selecting and delivering curriculum through classroom teaching
• Collaborating with faculty members outside of the NEXT Program
• Supporting students through weekly check-ins and responding to needs that arise throughout the week
• Communicating with parents and guardians
• Developing and monitoring IEPs
• Collaborating with local employers to secure and monitor job placements/internships
• Planning and implementing student field trips and excursions
• Assessing program for continuous improvement
• Maintaining relationships with alumni and supporters

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree, preferably with an emphasis in student learning and development. A master’s degree in special education is ideal. The candidate should also have 5+ years of experience working with people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.
