Program Director, M.S. Pathologists' Assistant Program

Northwestern College is seeking a strategic leader to serve as the inaugural program director for our M.S. in pathologists’ assistant studies. Analogous to our physician assistant program, this is a prime opportunity for a certified Path-A to transition into higher education or for an experienced educator to steer a growing program. We are looking for a candidate who balances clinical expertise with an aptitude for teaching and administration. The position is a 12-month full-time faculty appointment (non-tenure-track professor of practice) beginning on or after July 1, 2026. Help us define the future of diagnostic pathology!

Duties: As program director, you will be responsible for the organization, administration, instruction, evaluation, continuous quality improvement, curriculum planning and development, directing other program faculty/staff, and general effectiveness of the program, including budget preparation. You will be responsible for maintaining NAACLS accreditation of the program as well as engage in a minimum of 60 hours of documented continuing professional development every three years.  

Required Qualifications:

  • Be a graduate of a NAACLS accredited pathologists’ assistant educational program
    • (Or AAPA approved prior to 1995)
  • Hold an advanced degree (master’s or doctoral)
  • Hold ASCP BOC certification as a pathologists’ assistant
    • Or a board-certified pathologist
  • Adequate knowledge and proficiency in the content areas
  • 5 years of experience as pathologists’ assistant (or pathologist)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Have practical experience with teaching (or clinical preceptorship) and administration
  • Familiarity with NAACLS accreditation and professional certification procedures
  • Exceptional communication and organizational leadership skills
  • Proficiency in pathology LIS (laboratory information systems)
