Northwestern art exhibit to feature work by three students

Three senior art/graphic design majors at Northwestern College will display their work April 13–19 in the college’s Te Paske Gallery.

“Capturing Everyday,” an exhibit by Lynda Piatt, Veronica Postma and Brittany Shields, will open with a public reception Friday, April 13, at 7 p.m.

Piatt’s art focuses on telephone poles and superheroes and speaks to the importance of things and people one sees every day. She works in acrylic and ink and also makes prints. While at Northwestern, Piatt has been active in theatre. Following graduation, she plans to move to Chicago and pursue a career in scenic design. She is the daughter of Richard and Nancy Piatt of Des Moines.

Postma is an art major with a graphic design emphasis and a minor in public relations. Her pieces include mixed media works composed of found objects and hand stitching, as well as sculptures made out of everyday items. The daughter of Steve and Vonda Post of Sioux Center, Iowa, Postma plans to continue working at Iron Ingenuity in Sioux Center, a business that specializes in custom metal art, following graduation.

Shields graduated in December and is pursuing a career in graphic design in Chandler, Ariz. In addition to her art/graphic design major, she has minors in public relations and psychology. Her artwork in the exhibit consists of acrylic paintings, charcoal drawings and intaglio prints done from photos taken by Shields and her friends. She is the daughter of Doug and April Corlew of Alta, Iowa.

Northwestern’s Te Paske Gallery is located in the Thea G. Korver Visual Arts Center, on Highway 10 at 214 8th Street SW in Orange City. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to midnight Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to midnight Sunday.
