Directing students to present six short plays

Northwestern College directing students will present six short plays Wednesday, Dec. 7, beginning at 6 p.m., in the England Theatre of the DeWitt Theatre Arts Center. A full-length play, “Eurydice,” will be presented Thursday, Dec. 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the same venue.

All seven plays are produced as the student-directors’ final exam with minimal staging and peers as actors. Community members are invited to attend the free events; Wednesday start times are approximate.

On Wednesday, a meditative comedy on life, death and Polish jokes, “The Lives of the Saints,” will be directed by junior Keely Wright at 6 p.m.

At 6:20, junior Tiemen Godwaldt will direct “10,000 Cigarettes,” a dream-like drama that takes a look inside the mind of a smoker.

“Universal Language” will take the stage at 6:50 p.m. under the direction of junior Abby Bierly. The play is a hilarious farce about a woman seeking a cure for her stutter.

Junior Jill Black will direct “Code Blue” at 7:35. The romantic comedy includes an awkward love triangle.

“A Matter of Husbands,” a comedy about mistaken infidelity, is on stage at 8:05. The action will be directed by senior Heather Piatt.

At 8:30, sophomore Megan Weidner will direct “In the End: A Zombie Drama,” which takes place in a post-apocalyptic Ohio.

On Thursday, junior Ali Sondreal’s directing project, “Eurydice,” will be presented. The full-length play reimagines the classic myth of Orpheus through the eyes of its heroine, Eurydice, who dies an untimely death on her wedding day.
