Symposium to focus on faith in workplace

Princeton business ethics scholar Dr. David Miller will be the keynote speaker at Northwestern College’s fourth annual Day of Learning in Community Wednesday, Feb. 16. All events are free; community members are invited, including supervisors and staff seeking a cost-effective professional development opportunity.

Before earning a doctorate in ethics, Miller spent 16 years working in international business and finance. His experience includes sales and marketing for IBM and executive positions in finance, including international investment management, corporate finance, and mergers and acquisitions for a private equity firm. He has worked in the U.S., London and Germany.

Since entering academia, Miller has taught his signature business ethics course, Succeeding Without Selling Your Soul, at Princeton and Yale universities. He is the author of God at Work: The History and Promise of the Faith at Work Movement and has contributed to the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Fortune magazine.

Miller will speak at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. in Christ Chapel. His morning presentation will explore whether faith in the workplace is a fad or the future. In the afternoon he will present “Faith at Work: From Idea to Implementation.”

Between Miller’s presentations, symposium attendees will have three opportunities—at 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.—to choose from among more than 30 sessions offered by campus and community members.

Presenters include professionals in the arts, banking and finance, business, education, government, healthcare, law enforcement, ministry and missions, politics, scientific research, and sports. A mix of individuals and panels will address business ethics, biblical models of leadership, calling and career, and living one’s private faith in the public sector.
