Northwestern to host Fall Family Weekend

Northwestern College will host its annual Fall Family Weekend Nov. 7–9, giving family members of students a chance to see campus and get a glimpse into their student’s life.

The festivities begin Friday, Nov. 7, at 6 p.m. with a women’s basketball game against Jamestown College in the Bultman Center. Admission will be $6 for adults and $2 for Northwestern students with their ID card.

Northwestern theatre’s children’s show, Tell Me the Truth, will begin Friday at 7 p.m. in the Allen Black Box Theatre. Reserved tickets may be purchased at the box office beginning Oct. 27 from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, as well as Saturday afternoons from 1 to 5. Tickets may also be reserved by calling 712-707-7098. General admission tickets are $5; tickets for students of any age are $3. Performances are free for Northwestern students, faculty and staff. Tickets may also be purchased at the box office the day of the performance. Additional performances will take place Saturday at 2 and 7 p.m.

The men’s basketball team will play Jamestown College in the Bultman Center at 7:30 p.m. with ticket prices the same as for the women’s game. Friday will wrap up with Northwestern’s selection round of NC/DC, a campus version of “American Idol” that pits the best singers from Northwestern against those from Dordt College. Top performers will be chosen to represent Northwestern. Admission is free.

Saturday, Nov. 8, will begin with a waffle breakfast at The Hub in the Rowenhorst Student Center from 8 to10 a.m. Waffles, eggs and sausage will be served. Tips will go toward the Northwestern Auxiliary. Cost is $5, with children 5 and under eating for free.  

Another event sponsored by the Auxiliary will be a silent auction in the Rowenhorst Student Center from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Baked goods, homemade canned items, fresh food and gift baskets will be available for bidding.

Residence halls will be open to guests from 11 a.m. Saturday until 1 in the morning. Lunch will be available in the cafeteria from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at $6.50 per person. At halftime of the Red Raider football game versus Dakota Wesleyan, Northwestern’s Parents of the Year, Rachael and Roger Brunsting of Orange City, will be introduced.

Northwestern’s basketball teams will hit the court against Valley City State University in the afternoon, with the women’s game beginning at 2, followed by the men’s contest.

An evening buffet will be available in the cafeteria from 5 to 6:30 at $8.50 per person. The Fall Family Weekend concert will be held in Christ Chapel, beginning at 7 p.m., featuring several of the music department’s performing ensembles. Admission is free.

Sunday’s worship service will be held in Christ Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Lunch will follow in the cafeteria from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. with meals at $8.50 per person.
