Theatre students honored at regional festival

Two Northwestern College theatre seniors, Vaughn Donahue and Lindsay Westerkamp, were honored at the Region V Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF), held at Creighton University in Omaha Jan. 20–26. Donahue, a communications major from Monmouth, Maine, won the Regional Award in Graphics/Poster Design for publicity he designed for Terror Texts, a new musical that will be produced at Northwestern in February.
An award-winning filmmaker, Donahue produces multimedia projects for Bethany Christian Services’ abstinence programs.
Westerkamp, a theatre major from Clarinda, Iowa, was one of nine Northwestern students nominated for the Irene Ryan acting competition. Westerkamp was nominated for her portrayal of Isabella in Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure last April.
Among 343 Irene Ryan hopefuls at the regional KCACTF, Westerkamp was one of 36 who advanced to the semi-final rounds. She performed Rabbit Hole by David Lindsay-Abaire and a scene from Private Eyes by Steven Dietz opposite acting partner Matt De Glopper, a senior from Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Westerkamp intends to pursue an M.F.A. in acting.
Thirty-six Northwestern College theatre students attended the 40th annual festival. In addition to competing in acting and graphic design, students also entered set, costume, lighting and stage crew competitions.
