Fall Family Weekend set for Nov. 2-4

Northwestern College’s Fall Family Weekend, Nov. 2–4, gives siblings, grandparents and parents of NWC students an opportunity to visit campus.

Other than meals and admission to the Ken Davis comedy concert, there is no cost for the weekend, and no pre-registration is required. Accommodations are available in area hotels. A brochure with a complete schedule can be obtained from Lori Couch, director of student activities, by calling 712-707-7295 or e-mailing lwamhoff@nwciowa.edu.

Fall Family Weekend opens Friday, Nov. 2, with a concert by singer/songwriter Tyler James at 8 p.m. at The Hub in the Rowenhorst Student Center (RSC). James, who grew up in Orange City, specializes in piano-driven pop music. He now lives in Nashville and is releasing his first full-length recording this fall.

A continental breakfast is the first event on Saturday. Sponsored by the Northwestern Women’s Auxiliary, the meal will be served from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the Rowenhorst Student Center gym.

Also scheduled for Saturday morning, from 9:30 to 10:30 in the RSC gym, is a silent auction with an opportunity to bid on baked goods, home decorating items, gift baskets, plants and produce. Proceeds from the auction, which is sponsored by the Women’s Auxiliary, will go toward the planned Learning Commons.

Beginning at 11 a.m.—and throughout the afternoon and evening—family members are free to visit their student’s residence hall room.

For those wishing to eat on campus, lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the cafeteria for $6.50 per person. A football game between Northwestern and Morningside College begins at 1 p.m. in Sioux City. Admission is $6 for adults and $2 for students with their Northwestern ID.

At 5 p.m. a concert featuring Northwestern students will be held in Christ Chapel. Scheduled to perform are several music department ensembles.

Saturday evening’s meal is a buffet from 5 to 6:30 in the cafeteria. Cost is $8.50 per person. Following the meal, comedian Ken Davis will present a comedy concert, co-sponsored by Rise Ministries, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Christ Chapel. During the concert, Northwestern’s Parents of the Year, Alan and Kim Schmidt of Arthur, Iowa, will be recognized.

Tickets for Davis’ performance are $10 for Northwestern College students, parents, employees and their family members; $15 in advance for the general public; and $19 in advance for Gold Circle seating (the first five rows). At the door, tickets will be $18. Tickets at the Northwestern rate and Gold Circle tickets can be purchased in the student development office in the RSC. General admission tickets may be purchased at The Dove in Orange City and The True Vine in Sioux Center. General admission and Gold Circle tickets may be purchased at www.kendavis.com and RISE Ministries, 712-324-9763.

Fall Family Weekend concludes Sunday, Nov. 4, with a worship service at 10:30 a.m. in Christ Chapel, followed by lunch in the cafeteria from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for $8.50 per person.
