Campus sells out Jars of Clay, Chris Rice and Sara Groves concert

Award-winning Christian bands Jars of Clay, Chris Rice and Sara Groves sold out Northwestern’s Bultman Center on Sunday, Oct. 30. More than 1,800 people attended the concert.

Jars of Clay burst onto the mainstream scene with its hit song “Flood” in 1996. Since then, the foursome has sold more than five million albums, garnered 17 No. 1 hits, and won three Grammy Awards. The concert included eight pieces from Jars’ latest recording, “Redemption Songs,” a collection of ancient hymns and spirituals.

At the event, concertgoers were challenged to help build a well in Africa. Blood:Water Mission, an organization founded by members of Jars of Clay, works to stem the African HIV/AIDS pandemic by educating people about the disease and providing clean drinking water.

Told that the average cost of a well is approximately $2,000, Northwestern students responded to the challenge. In the weeks following the concert, members of the college’s Student Activities Council collected donations from students, faculty and staff. They then matched the amount raised dollar-for-dollar for a total of $2,240—enough to provide one African village with clean, safe drinking water.
