Paying it forward
As a child, Julian struggled to learn English as a second language, but caring teachers helped him excel. With a degree in special education teaching, as well as reading and coaching endorsements from Northwestern, Julian will soon be that same kind of teacher for kids in the next generation.
Supported in faith
I chose Northwestern because it is close to home, and I saw its greatness through my teachers who were Northwestern alumni. They were all models of what Northwestern stood for, and I wanted to be part of it. I wanted not only to get a degree, but also to be surrounded by like-minded people who would help grow my faith.
Inspirational
I initially struggled as an English as a second language (ESL) student, but my teachers were all great, helping me learn English and feel comfortable learning. I want to do the same for other students for whom English might not be their first language. I want to be the one who enables students to look back and say, “I was able to do it because he was at my side!”
Skills + strategy
I love the observations and practicums we do in area classrooms for Northwestern’s special education teaching major. They allow us to get real-life experiences using the skills and strategies we learn in our classrooms. The best thing about it is the feedback we get from the teachers we visit; that helps us grow and reflects their compassion for their students.
Scholars + mentors
The education faculty are like one big family. I love how each professor has had experiences in different levels of education. That enables them to provide us with new ideas and perspectives.
Contributing to community
At Northwestern, I have been involved in wrestling, campus ministry, Bible studies, tutoring, and in the admissions office as a student ambassador. There are so many ways you can contribute to the Raider community.
