Home away from home

During a class her sophomore year, Abby sensed her calling to become a teacher. As a secondary education and physical education double major with endorsements in chemistry, biology and coaching, Abby found her home away from home at NWC and hopes to create a classroom environment where students feel safe.

Changing course

It took me a couple of major changes to finally find my calling as a teacher. When I made the switch to the kinesiology department, Dr. Bouma made it the smoothest transition. He always has a warm welcome and gives his all to every student he encounters.

Classroom experience

NWC’s education department plugs you into the schools in the surrounding area to observe, learn and teach even before student teaching. They focus on experience and application before you lead your own classroom. Northwestern’s faculty are willing to do whatever they can to help you succeed.

Servant leader

I want to serve the Lord through all my future endeavors, and I want to be a servant-leader for the students that enter my classroom or the athletes who enter my circle. My time at Northwestern has led me to become the leader I was always meant to be—I am a student ambassador, student athletic trainer, and teaching assistant, and I also work with the NEXT program, a college experience for students with intellectual or developmental disabilities.

Courageous faith

Northwestern has enabled me to flourish in my faith. Through chapel services, service trips, and relationships with friends, professors and staff, my connection with the Lord has grown and will continue to grow. Northwestern prepares students for life outside of college and develops students into strong, humble servants of the Lord.
