NW marketing materials earn awards

Two Northwestern College marketing projects have been selected as winners in the Higher Education Marketing Report’s 28th annual advertising awards contest. This marks the seventh consecutive year for Northwestern to win awards in the competition.

A set of three TV commercials received a silver award. They used soundbites and footage from the new admissions video, Real.Northwestern.2, which won an award of merit. Both of the projects were completed in partnership with Joe Hubers, a 2003 Northwestern College graduate who leads Passenger Productions in Sioux Falls.

Hubers and his team worked with Tamara Fynaardt, associate director of public relations at Northwestern, to produce the award-winning video. It features students telling what they really think about their profs, studying, discipleship and dorm life, and includes “student-cam” video they shot. Participants included Taylor Culver, Sioux City; Mario Garcia, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Nathan Mastbergen, Sioux City; and Janet Pitsenberger, Dyer, Ind.

The video and commercials can be viewed at www.nwciowa.edu/videos or YouTube.com/realnorthwestern.

Higher Education Marketing Report is a monthly magazine covering the marketing strategies and admissions procedures of colleges, universities and schools. It sponsors the nation’s largest educational advertising awards competition, with nearly 3,000 entries received from more than 1,000 institutions.

Last year, a series of Northwestern recruiting publications received an award of merit in the Higher Education Marketing Report competition. In 2011, Northwestern’s website earned an award of merit. In 2010, the college received a bronze award for its admissions viewbook. The college’s admissions video—the original Real.Northwestern.—won a gold award in 2009. A series of postcards for parents of prospective students, a magazine ad, and a billboard ad were recognized in 2008. An admissions publication was honored in 2007.
