Dr. Hulstein served as a certified nurse midwife at Promise Community Health Center in Sioux Center for 10 years and directed Dordt University's nursing program for 14 years. She gained additional experience as a campus health services director and as a registered nurse in Iowa and Florida hospitals in the areas of obstetrics, medical/surgical and ER. Hulstein's doctoral dissertation on "Premenstrual Symptoms and Academic Stress in Emerging Adulthood Women" led to several presentations at the Western Institute of Nursing Research Conference. Her current research interest is in the articulation of shalom through teaching and experiential learning.
