Mary Beth Breen joined Northwestern’s education department faculty with 17 years of teaching experience, having taught preschool, kindergarten or first grade a Christian schools in Sanborn, Sheldon and Orange City, Iowa. At Sanborn, she started the preschool program; at Sheldon, she aligned the preschool with Quality Preschool Program Standards; and at Orange City, she led professional development for curriculum and technology integration. A member of the Iowa and Northwest Iowa Reading Associations, she is the recipient of the 2020-21 Iowa Governor’s STEM Advisory Council Scale-Up Award. She earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Northwestern College with reading, early childhood and coaching endorsements. In 2008 she completed a Master of Arts in Teaching at Morningside University.
