Professor Vanderploeg specializes in early childhood education and leadership. She is certified to teach pre-K through grade 6 and music through grade 8. She began her career three decades ago establishing and directing two preschools that are still operating today, and she has led early childhood staff in achieving the highest 5-star rating through the Iowa Quality Rating Scale. Vanderploeg has experience as a public and private school music teacher and as a public school early learning coordinator, offering home visits for families with children ages birth to three. She also has taught undergraduate- and graduate-level college courses.
