An article co-written by Jennifer Rogers, athletic training program director and instructor of kinesiology at Northwestern College, has been published in a recent issue of the International Journal of Athletic Therapy and Training.
Rogers and Malissa Martin, graduate program director of the Ph.D. program in athletic training at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions, wrote “Developing Essential Questions for Athletic Training Education.”
Noting that “strategic questioning facilitates development of a process for problem solving in the clinical setting,” the authors wrote that questions should develop, encourage, engage and assess students’ thinking. They concluded that essential questions can help students analyze, synthesize and evaluate information in the process of acquiring knowledge.
Rogers joined Northwestern’s faculty in 2003 after serving for three years as head athletic trainer. She earned a master’s degree in education with an emphasis in biomechanics and sport psychology from the University of Kansas and is pursuing a Ph.D. in athletic training from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions.
