Northwestern College’s Women’s Choir and Chamber Orchestra will present a joint concert of Lenten music on Friday, April 15, at 7:30 p.m. in Christ Chapel. The public is invited to attend.

The concert will include 18 pieces from the two ensembles, both together and separately. The Women’s Choir will sing Stabat Mater by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, Shalom Aleichem, and Joshua by Paul Caldwell and Sean Ivory, as well as four compositions by Dr. Heather Josselyn-Cranson, assistant professor of music and director of music ministries. The Chamber Orchestra’s repertoire will include Bach’s Sinfonia to Cantata #182, Liszt’s Totentanz and a new arrangement of Edward MacDowell’s To a Wild Rose.

The Liszt piece will feature Paul Whitley, instructor of music. An award-winning pianist, he is pursuing a Doctor of Music degree  at Northwestern University. He earned a Master of Music degree at the New England Conservatory of Music and a bachelor’s degree at Wheaton College of Illinois.

Dr. Linell Gray Moss, visiting assistant professor of music, directs the Women’s Choir. She has taught at Northwestern College since 2002. Dr. Kimberly Utke Svanoe, professor emeritus of music, is the Chamber Orchestra director. She retired after 33 years of full-time teaching at Northwestern in 2009.
