Nine senior psychology majors at Northwestern College presented the results of their research at the Siouxland Undergraduate Social Science Research Conference, hosted by Northwestern on April 27. They were among several student presenters from area private liberal arts colleges.
Erin Ackland of Geneva, Neb., presented a paper examining the relationship between the sensation-seeking personality trait and sexual behavior.
Brittany Caffey, Delano, Minn., presented “Emotional Intelligence and Leadership: Is There Really a Connection?”
Eli Ellis of Sioux Center presented a paper on self-esteem, body image, and sexual attitudes and behaviors in males and females.
Abigail Haverhals, Hawarden, presented a paper entitled “Memory Formation: Developmental Differences Among Writing and Non-writing Groups.”
Victoria Karssen, Orange City, presented “Ego Depletion: The Effects of Mood on Self-Regulation—a Limited Resource.”
Holly Messenger of West Des Moines presented “What Makes Us Resilient?: The Relationship Among Traumatic Experience, Emotional Intelligence, Empathy and Resilience.”
Julia Price of Firth, Neb., presented a paper entitled “Vocational Guidance and Sources of Social Support on College Adjustment.”
Carrie Scheevel, Oak Harbor, Wash., presented “Attitudes Toward Death: The Difference Between Implicit and Explicit Attitudes and the Influence of Personal Experience.”
Sarah Way, Pella, presented a paper examining emotional intelligence and anxiety as predictors in procrastination.
Dr. David Myers, the John Dirk Werkman Professor of Psychology at Hope College in Holland, Mich., and a prolific author, was the conference’s keynote speaker.
