Social work major to present at conference

Northwestern College senior social work major Nathan Kuik will present his honors research project at the National Association of Social Workers Iowa Chapter conference in Des Moines on April 19.

Kuik’s project, “Just Trying to be a Normal Kid: A Phenomenological Study of Undocumented Students,” focuses on what students living in rural Iowa without legal documentation experience on a daily basis. The presentation will include a summary of the study, which involved in-depth interviews with seven undocumented Latino students; reflections by Kuik; and a group discussion about what Iowa can do to assist undocumented students.

Kuik, of Brandon, S.D., will graduate in May. He will be getting married this summer and moving to Seattle, where he will pursue a master’s degree in social work at the University of Washington.
