Chemistry major presents research

Ruth Cink, a junior chemistry major at Northwestern College from Missouri Valley, Iowa, recently presented her research at the American Chemical Society’s national conference in New Orleans

Cink gave a poster presentation entitled “The ‘Coloring Problem’ for gamma-Brasses: Cu9-xAl4+x.” The poster covered research in which she studied chemical influences on the copper aluminum system. Cink conducted the research last summer at Iowa State University, funded by a Research Experience for Undergraduates grant from the National Science Foundation. She continued part of that research this semester at Northwestern for an honors research course.

Cink, who has been awarded the G. Henry Veldhuis Christian Scholar Science Award for next year, transferred to Northwestern from Iowa State University. She will graduate next May.
