Worship Arts Scholarship

To apply:

  1. Complete the form below.
  2. Give the recommendation form link to a person who knows your heart and ability in worship.
  3. Interview
    • To schedule your interview, contact the theatre department at theatre@nwciowa.edu or 712-707-7341.
    • You should prepare a brief expression of worship arts leadership (about 2 to 3 minutes in length). Ideally this will be presented from memory (without notes or music). This might be a Scripture presentation, a dance, a song, a dramatic monologue, a testimony, a PowerPoint, etc.
    • An in-person interview on campus is best. Students who are unable to schedule an interview may discuss an alternative method, such as a YouTube video or Zoom.

Application deadlines are Dec. 31 and March 31. Awards will be granted following each deadline. Those meeting the earlier deadline will have the best chance to receive a scholarship. Applications sent following the March 31 deadline will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis as long as funds are available. The Worship Arts Scholarship is renewable, and awards are evaluated on a yearly basis.

What is the Worship Arts Scholarship? A monetary award based on your skill, experience and plans to become actively involved in worship at Northwestern.

Who is eligible for the Worship Arts Scholarship? Anyone who completes the application process, plans to become actively involved in worship at NWC, and has been accepted for admission to Northwestern will be considered for this scholarship. Awards are given to those with experience in worship—be that speaking, planning, technology, music, dance, painting, drama, Scripture presentation or other areas of worship. Recipients are determined by worship arts professors, who evaluate the audition/interview and application.

What is expected of Worship Arts Scholarship recipients? Worship arts scholarship recipients are expected to spend about 60 hours each semester involved in Christian Formation events. This could mean auditioning for and participating on a chapel leadership team, helping mix audio for chapel recordings, or supporting other events led by the office of Christian formation.

How many people receive this scholarship? We have approximately 30 students involved in worship across campus. We are currently seeking 8 candidates for scholarships for the next academic year.

Do I have to be a worship arts major to receive a scholarship? No. Scholarships are available to both majors and non-majors.

How do I start the process? You must first be accepted to Northwestern. After that, you should complete the Worship Arts Scholarship application. Complete the form and have someone who knows your heart for worship complete the reference form. Then contact Jodi Grant to schedule an interview.

What should I do for the interview? You should prepare a brief expression of worship arts leadership (about 2-3 minutes in length). Ideally this will be presented from memory (without notes or music). This might be a scripture presentation, a dance, a song, a dramatic monologue, a testimony, a PowerPoint, etc.

What are the deadlines? Decisions will be made following Dec. 31 and again after March 31. If you can have your application completed before Dec. 31, you will have the best opportunity to receive an award. Applications will be accepted after the March 31 deadline but will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis as long as funds are available.
