Ready for a healthy challenge

Jordan knew his goal of becoming a family doctor with a specialty in sports medicine would require a long and rigorous academic journey, but he says the supportive community he has found at NWC has given him the tools he needs to achieve his goal. An all-conference defensive back in football and a sprinter and jumper in track and field, he serves as a liaison to the Bridge Center, leads a discipleship group, and is vice president of the Pre-Health Professions Club.

Driven to help
I dislocated my wrist in the sixth grade and went to my first-ever sports medicine doctor. That interaction—and the opportunity to shadow doctors back home—was exciting to me and gave me the drive to want to help people.

Challenging and supportive
The professors challenge you inside and outside the classroom, but Northwestern has an ample number of resources to help you. The small class sizes also make a big difference too.

Bridging the gap
Northwestern’s Bridge Center holds a special place for me because, as a minority, I saw I am not the only one at Northwestern. It also helped me adjust to Orange City, having come from the big city of St. Louis. I have met many of my friends through the Bridge Center.

Set up for success
I utilize the Student Success Center by asking the peer tutors and STEM Specialist Randy Van Peursem for help with classes I may be struggling in. Rather than just giving answers, they break things down to help me gain an understanding of the topic I am able to apply later in class. The weekly study sessions help me understand what I truly know and what I need to practice more.
