An honorable goal

An aspiring physician, Jake was sold on the solid reputation of Northwestern’s pre-med program and the chance to integrate his faith with a double major in biology and chemistry. Meeting the challenge of his honors courses while also running cross country and track gives him the balanced college experience he hoped to find. A member of the Honors Program Leadership Team and a peer science tutor, Jake is conducting research on the effect of supplements on the body’s energy production during exercise.

Discipline
Northwestern has helped me to become more disciplined in all areas of my life, including academics, running, faith practices and connecting with others.

Follow your interests
The academics at Northwestern have exceeded my expectations. I’ve had the opportunity to take challenging courses within my major. I also like that each honors student gets to do their own research project on a topic of their choice.

Service-minded
One of my favorite memories from my Northwestern experience was my Spring Service Partnership in the Navajo Nation in Arizona. We served alongside the Navajo people, rebuilding parts of the church and the pastor’s home. It was fun getting to know so many new people throughout the trip and getting to serve in one of the most beautiful parts of the country.

Authentic connection
Northwestern’s professors are genuinely interested in their students’ lives outside of their studies. I have found it’s easy to connect with my professors on a deeper level.

A place to belong
Northwestern has helped me grow in my faith through team Bible studies, chapel, academics—and encouragement from friends, coaches, teammates and professors. I’ve never been a part of a community of believers like this, and I am grateful to have found this special place.
