Strength in numbers
Hayden’s goal is to become an orthopedic surgeon, so he sought out a college where he knew he would be pushed academically. At Northwestern, he found a community that pairs rigorous academics with a strong faith commitment. A triple major in mathematics, biology-health professions and chemistry, Hayden plays on the football team, is president of the Student-Athlete Leadership Team and is a member of the Honors Program, among other activities.Problem solver
Originally, I entered Northwestern as strictly a biology-health professions major. However, when planning my four-year schedule, I noticed I had enough space to pick up one or two more majors. I always enjoyed the satisfaction and order that accompanied mathematics. I like the problem-solving aspect that challenges students to continue to build upon and recall previous math knowledge.
Adding faith to the equation
The strength of the math major at Northwestern is the ability to explore our understanding of faith through mathematics. The professors at Northwestern do an incredible job demonstrating how different math concepts apply to our everyday lives.
Seeing the whole person
The faculty at Northwestern are incredibly personable and knowledgeable. Instead of seeing you as merely a “number,” the faculty understand your life outside of academics and seek to watch you grow in every aspect of your life (spiritually, academically and athletically). The faculty desire to create a relationship with their students that fosters academic excellence and spiritual growth.

The professors leave a lasting impact on their students that prepares them for future success in their endeavors. The academic support staff ensures that no student is left behind without support and encouragement. Working together, both professors and the academic support staff demonstrate how Northwestern stands out.
