A double major in software engineering and data science, Gonzalo loves using technology to find creative solutions to real-world problems. He is an all-conference defender on the men’s soccer team and is active in the Business Club and Raider Capital Management, the school’s student-run investment fund. He says his experience at Northwestern has helped him become more disciplined and reflective.Engineering solutions
I chose software engineering because I have always been interested in identifying problems and using both creativity and technical skills to solve them. I can see myself in the future developing software and creating tools that make people’s lives easier. Technology is part of everyday life, and being able to improve it in a meaningful way is something that motivates me and makes me feel fulfilled.
Real-world links
One of the biggest strengths of Northwestern’s software engineering program is its interdisciplinary approach. Students are able to build a strong technical foundation while also learning how technology connects with people, organizations and society. The program also offers high-quality courses that help students develop problem-solving skills and prepare for real-world situations. In addition, the small class sizes allow faculty to give students more individual attention, answer specific questions and provide personal support throughout the learning process.
Purpose + integrity
Being in an environment where people care about each other and where I can build meaningful relationships has strengthened my desire to live with purpose and integrity. Northwestern has also challenged me to become more disciplined and reflective, not only in academics and athletics, but also in my personal and spiritual life. Overall, my time here has helped me deepen my faith and apply it more intentionally in the way I study, compete, build relationships and make decisions.
Building relationships
Since my first moments at Northwestern, building relationships and meeting people from all around the world have expanded my perspective and helped me understand different points of view. Through my classes, I have developed strong technical skills, problem-solving abilities and a better understanding of how to apply what I learn to real-world situations.
