Northwestern students to perform recital

Northwestern College students Rachel Plockmeyer and Simon Campbell will perform a vocal recital together on Sunday, Nov. 6, at 3 p.m. in Christ Chapel. The hour-long concert is free and open to the public.

Plockmeyer, a senior alto from Zeeland, Mich., majoring in vocal music education, will sing baroque opera, German and French romantic pieces, 20th century works, Broadway hits and jazz standards.

“I want to sing pieces I enjoy performing while offering a wide variety of genre and periods for my listeners,” Plockmeyer says.

A four-year member of both the A cappella Choir and Heritage Singers, Plockmeyer is the recipient of numerous music scholarships, including the Cyndy Rowenhorst Memorial Scholarship for vocal performance and the Anna Laura Lensink Endowed Music Scholarship.

Plockmeyer is also involved in Northwestern’s International Club. She was a resident assistant in Hospers Hall last year.

Campbell, a senior baritone from Osage, Iowa, double-majoring in music ministry and religion, will sing a variety of pieces he chose for their poetry, including Franz Schubert’s “Erlkönig.”

“The piece is basically a nightmare tale told through song. It is easily the creepiest song I have ever performed,” Campbell says.

Campbell has sung in the A cappella Choir, Heritage Singers and campus worship teams and played euphonium in the Symphonic Band. Also a guitarist and pianist, he is a recipient of a music performance scholarship and a winner of two competitive scholarship competitions.
