Students speak at history conference

Four Northwestern College students spoke at the 40th annual Student History Conference, sponsored by the Phi Alpha Theta history honors society at the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, on April 21.

Clarissa Janssen, a senior history major from Palmer, Iowa, won the U.S. history paper prize for her essay, “‘The Gilded Western Sun’: The Influence of the American Dream and Landscape in Mormon Hymnody and Folksongs.”

Three Northwestern students—Lisa Burnette, a junior history and political science major from Sioux City; David Elder, a senior history and writing & rhetoric major from Orange City; and Kristin Erickson, a junior history major from Mount Horeb, Wis.,—each offered comments on papers written by students from Creighton University.
