Senior receives fellowship at Texas Christian University

David Elder, a senior writing & rhetoric and history major from Orange City, Iowa, has been selected to receive a prestigious Radford Fellowship at Texas Christian University. The award provides a $12,000 per year stipend for a select number of Ph.D. students in rhetoric and composition for four years, and relieves recipients from teaching assistantship responsibilities their first year.

Sarah Yoder, a 2002 Northwestern College graduate, also is a Radford Fellowship recipient at TCU.

Earlier this spring, Elder learned that a piece he composed for his History and Theory of Rhetoric class, “Chris Rock: Epideictic Rhetor,” has been accepted after an external review process to Young Scholars in Writing: Undergraduate Research in Writing and Rhetoric. The editor told Elder the essay is an impressive piece of scholarship that “reflects not only your facility with rhetorical analysis but also your appreciation of the complex operations of rhetoric in the world.”
