Northwestern College’s Te Paske Gallery will host “Personal Mythologies,” a collection of ceramic works created by current Master of Fine Arts students in the University of Iowa’s ceramics program. The exhibit will be on display Nov. 10 through Dec. 12, with a public reception scheduled for Friday, Dec. 12, at 6:30 p.m.
Curated by Amy Williams, instructor of art and design at Northwestern, “Personal Mythologies” features artwork by Maggie Adams, Perla Camacho, McKenna Davis, Faye Hadfield, Shaun Mallonga and Kaitlin Smrcina. The six artists’ interpretations of inner worlds are displayed alongside one another, each using clay to tell their stories. Themes of imagination and escapism, the search for safety, and a longing for community and connection thread through the collection, uniting the artists’ varied approaches.
“We are so excited to host this amazing group of MFA students from the University of Iowa’s ceramics graduate program,” says Williams. “Their varied use of clay as a medium for storytelling is imaginative and inspiring.”
Northwestern’s Te Paske Gallery is located in the Korver Visual Arts Center on Highway 10 at 214 8th Street SW in Orange City. Gallery hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.
