Van Peursem to present student recital at Northwestern College

Joel Van PeursemNorthwestern College senior Joel Van Peursem will present a trombone recital on Sunday, Nov. 1, at 3 p.m. in Christ Chapel. The event is free and open to the public.

Van Peursem will perform a variety of musical styles and be accompanied by his sister Abby, a junior elementary education major, on piano. The repertoire includes works by Camille Saint-Saëns, Benedetto Marcello, Georg Christoph Wagenseil and Launy Grøndahl. Van Peursem will be the featured soloist when the Brass Quintet plays Don Gillis’ arrangement of “Just a Closer Walk.” He will close the recital with Arthur Pryor’s lively “Blue Bells of Scotland.”

Van Peursem is a music and secondary education major from Vermillion, South Dakota. The son of Dan and Jennifer Van Peursem plans to teach high school or middle school band after graduation. A student assistant in Northwestern’s music department, he performs in the Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, Orchestra, A cappella Choir and Red Raider Athletic Band.
