Northwestern to host Ethnic Fair

Northwestern College’s International Club will host its annual Ethnic Fair on Saturday, March 29. Area residents will have the opportunity to experience ethnic dance, music and dress, as well as partake in an all-you-can-eat buffet serving foods from countries around the world prepared by Northwestern’s international students.

The international buffet will begin at 5 p.m. in the Rowenhorst Student Center gymnasium, with entertainment starting at about 5:30. The admission price including the buffet of international foods is $12 for community guests and $6 for children ages eight and younger. Those who are not eating—and Northwestern students—will be charged an entry fee of $1.

Included in the event is an ethnic fashion show spotlighting the authentic dress of the students’ countries. Additionally, there will be a number of dance routines performed, including a Bollywood dance and an African dance, multiple singing acts, and a poetry reading.

“The Ethnic Fair is an annual highlight for many in the Northwestern and Sioux County communities. The International Club is working hard to offer another great menu and variety show that celebrates the many cultures they bring to our region,” says Kevin McMahan, Northwestern’s associate dean for international and intercultural development.

Northwestern’s International Club includes 29 students representing 22 countries from Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and North America.
