NWC seeks host families for students of color

Northwestern College is seeking area families who are willing to be a home away from home for one to two U.S. students of color next school year.

The expansion of the college’s host family program (Northwestern already provides host families for international students) is part of a new effort to boost support for students of color at Northwestern, many of whom are unfamiliar with small-town living in Iowa.

The effort, called FUTURES, aims to encourage the educational and social success of students of color by better identifying and meeting the needs of students whose transition to college includes the adjustment of moving from a diverse, urban city to a primarily white rural town. To learn more about FUTURES, visit www.nwciowa.edu/futures.

For host family details or to sign up to be a second family for U.S. students of color, contact Northwestern staff member and student mom Julie Andersen, 707-7170 or andersen@nwciowa.edu.
