Students present original show

Northwestern College senior theatre majors Hannah Barker, Orange City, and Abby Bierly, Hull, are directing a cast of their peers as they perform “One,” which the cast also wrote collaboratively.

“One” will be presented Wednesday and Thursday, May 1 and 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Allen Black Box Theatre. Admission to “One” is free, and seating is first-come, first-served.

Based on the stories and shared experiences of the ensemble, “One” is a series of movement pieces that integrate acting, storytelling and dance. “Hope is a main theme,” says Barker. She adds, “Many of the stories explore what makes us feel weak—broken families or relationships—and how we deal with those moments and come out strong.”

The 11-member cast for “One” includes senior Keely Wright, Orange City; freshman Brianne Hassman, Spencer; and junior Beth Kahanic, Sioux City. Junior twins Kelsey and Kendra Kleinwolterink, Sibley, are ensemble members as are siblings Jackson and Maria Nickolay, a junior and a freshman from Hovland, Minn.

They are joined by junior Eryn Schlote, Van Meter, Iowa; junior Emily Wohlers, Denison, Iowa; and freshmen Jacob Christiansen, Omaha, and Kyle TenHulzen, Firth, Neb.
