Two seniors receive Faculty Honors

Two graduating seniors at Northwestern College received Faculty Honors during the college’s commencement exercises on May 12. Anna Bartlett of Orange City and Brian Brandau of Osage, Iowa, were recognized.

The Faculty Honors award is bestowed upon graduates who excel in academic achievement, Christian influence, general attitude and participation in worthwhile campus activities. The highest honor the faculty gives to graduating seniors, it is determined by a vote of the entire faculty.

Bartlett, a literature major, graduated Summa Cum Laude and received the English department’s Outstanding Graduating Senior Award. A member of the Sigma Tau senior honor society and an Honors Program Scholar, she has served as a resident assistant and discipleship group leader. The daughter of Paul and Sharon Bartlett played flute in the Symphonic Band and was selected for the Iowa Collegiate Honor Band. She also won awards for her writing in the college’s literary magazine.

Brandau, a political science and economics major, also graduated Summa Cum Laude. He was the recipient of the Outstanding Graduating Senior Award for both political science and economics. An Honors Program Scholar and a member of the Sigma Tau senior honor society, he has served as a tutor and resident assistant. The son of Jerry and Lisa Brandau also was active in the Campus Ministry Team, served as features editor for the student newspaper, and acted in a recent theatrical production.
