Utah pastor to speak in chapel

Mike Menning, a Salt Lake City pastor who ministers to other pastors in the heart of Mormon country, will speak in Northwestern College's chapel service on Monday, April 4, at 10:05 a.m. The public is invited to attend.

Menning is speaking under the auspices of Northwestern's Ronald R. Nelson Scholars and Artists in Residence Program.

Originally from the Edgerton, Minn., area, Menning represented southwest Minnesota in the Minnesota Senate and House of Representatives from 1977 to 1983. In 1985, he co-wrote a book, Us Four: A Senator, His Family, Their Brain Injured Child, about his family's struggle to get help for their son, who was born with microcephaly.

Menning started two chapters of Friendship Ministries, a Christian organization that works with children with special needs and their families. After leaving politics, his family moved to Salt Lake City, where Menning was the pastor of the Mountain Springs Community Church for five years while continuing his work with Friendship Ministries. Now president of Global Partners Inc., an area charitable organization, he works with established pastors and church planters to ensure healthy leadership of churches.
