Dahn projects receive favorable reviews

Two CDs released earlier this year that feature works by Dr. Luke Dahn, assistant professor of music at Northwestern College, have received favorable reviews this summer.

Spirals, released on the Albany label in March, was praised in the July/August issue of Fanfare Magazine. The review calls "Penumbrae," composed by Dahn, a "superbly concise" work. The CD as a whole is touted as being "highly compelling and even provocative." Spirals was a joint effort between American composers with ties to the Midwest and Russian performers associated with the Moscow Conservatory Studio for New Music.

A second CD, MAPP: The Midwest American Piano Project, released on Albany in January, was favorably reviewed in the July/August issue of The American Record Guide. The recording features Dahn's work "Downward Courses," which is described by the reviewer as "enticing." The CD is praised as being "superbly played and recorded."

Dahn earned a doctorate in music composition from the University of Iowa and has taught at Northwestern since 2007.
